Hawthorn Renovation
This Hawthorn Renovation blends functionality with timeless sophistication in a federation-era home. Hand-painted custom joinery takes centre stage, complemented by a client-selected marble slab, cut to specification and sealed for a flawless finish. Premium appliances are seamlessly integrated, balancing beauty with practicality.
Hawthorn Renovation: Kitchen and Living Redesign
The brief for this Hawthorn renovation was to modernise the kitchen and living areas of a much-loved federation home without erasing the character that drew the owners to it in the first place. Fox Building Group worked with Kimpton Interiors from early design through to final joinery installation, coordinating trades so that new cabinetry, stonework, and services integrated cleanly with the home’s original proportions and detailing.

Federation-Era Details, Reimagined
The original timber floorboards were revived with a matte stain, enhancing their natural grain and colour and tying the renovated kitchen back to the rest of the federation-era home. A book-matched marble slab wraps the island bench and splashback, framed by hand-painted joinery finished in a soft, heritage-appropriate tone rather than a stark modern white.
In the laundry, handmade tiled floors and bespoke joinery echo the kitchen’s elegance with matching finishes, so the renovation reads as one considered scope of work rather than two disconnected rooms.
Bathroom and Living Areas
The bathroom renovation continued the home’s material language, pairing warm timber vanities with honed stone and traditional tapware detailing, so the wet areas feel like a natural extension of the federation home rather than a modern insertion. In the living areas, existing cornices, skirtings, and window joinery were retained and restored, while new lighting and finishes were layered in to bring the spaces up to a contemporary standard of comfort.
The hallway and staircase, both original features of the home, were treated with the same care as the new kitchen and bathroom work. Existing balustrading and timber detailing were repaired rather than replaced wherever possible, preserving the sense of history that runs through the entire property.
A Hawthorn Renovation Built to Last
This Hawthorn Renovation reflects a meticulous attention to detail, delivering spaces that honour the home’s character while introducing a contemporary sense of style and enduring quality. Fox Building Group worked closely with Kimpton Interiors to execute this design to the standard the brief called for.
Materials throughout were chosen for longevity as much as looks: sealed natural stone, hand-painted joinery finishes, and restored original timber were all selected to age gracefully in a family home, rather than requiring early replacement. The result is a renovation that feels settled and considered from day one, not a showpiece that will date within a few years.
