Winchelsea Custom Home
Located in the heart of Winchelsea, this custom built, family home was designed with tradition in mind. Although it reflects a heritage house, the interior is crisp and modern.
Set on a generous 1,011 sqm allotment, this Winchelsea Custom Home puts a contemporary twist on the federation style that defines much of the surrounding streetscape, with high ceilings, quality fixtures and a considered material palette throughout. Its position behind a classic white picket fence places the owners within easy walking distance of Winchelsea’s shops, cafes and the Barwon River, while the home itself was built to feel entirely private and self-contained.

This custom built home was finished to the highest quality, including polished concrete floors with a bespoke stone mix hand picked by Fox Building Group. Four large bedrooms with custom built joinery line the central hallway that leads to an open plan living area.
At the heart of the home, the kitchen was built around a stone-topped island bench, fitted with a gas cooktop, double ceramic farmhouse sink, brass tapware and a glass splashback, while a fully shelved butler’s pantry keeps the main kitchen free of clutter. The adjoining living and dining area was built to be light-filled and airy, opening directly onto the rear deck to create a natural flow between indoor and outdoor entertaining.
The large open plan living was built with entertaining in mind and the 3.6m ceilings add to the grandeur of the space. Built to last the harsh Surf Coast elements, the exterior is cladded with James Hardie Weatherboards, custom double glazed timber windows and a zincalume roof to keep with tradition of other houses in the area.
The kitchen was built for a chef and utilises luxury appliances, including an in-built rangehood in the island bench and farmhouse style sinks.
In the master suite, a bank of windows and a walk-in robe with custom cabinetry were built alongside an ensuite finished in floor-to-ceiling blue fish-scale tiles, paired with a custom double vanity and brass tapware for a considered point of difference. The main bathroom carries its own distinct palette, with floor-to-ceiling pink tiling, floating cabinetry and a freestanding bath built in as a genuine centrepiece rather than an afterthought.
With brushed brass fixtures throughout and coloured tiles in both bathrooms gives it a real pop of colour adding to the modern interior.
A dedicated laundry was fitted with the same attention to detail as the rest of the home, with custom cabinetry, a stone benchtop, a farmhouse sink and polished concrete floors carried through from the main living areas.
Winchelsea Custom Home: The Finished Result
The location was as much a part of the brief as the finishes. Winchelsea’s shops, cafes, pub, school and childcare are all within easy walking distance, and the Barwon River’s walking tracks and gum-lined banks sit just around the corner. With Winchelsea Train Station nearby and Geelong’s CBD roughly thirty minutes away by car, Fox Building Group designed and built this home to suit a family who wanted country-town living without sacrificing an easy commute.
Fox Building Group was proud to be a part of this custom new home build and know it will stand the test of time in Winchelsea. From the high 3.6m ceilings down to the brass tapware and hand-picked stone finishes, every detail on this Winchelsea Custom Home was chosen to give a federation-era streetscape a genuinely modern, family-ready interior — built to be lived in, not just looked at.
